Günter Ziegler wins the Communicator Prize 2008

Günter Ziegler from TU Berlin received the € 50.000 award of the Donors' Association for the Promotion of Sciences and Humanities in Germany (Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft) and the German Research Foundation (DFG) for his outstanding achievements in relating his work (discrete mathematics) to the public. The jury acknowledged his successful efforts to paint a new, fresh picture of Mathematics. The Communicator Award was created in close cooperation between the DFG and the Donors' Association to honour academics who, in a sustained and exceptional manner, have made efforts to communicate their work to the general public. Günter Ziegler is president of the German Mathematical Society, deputy chair of the Berlin Mathematical School, and a coordinator of the "2008 Year of Mathematics" celebrated in Germany.
